Instructional Design in Teaching English Using Authentic Assessment: The Practice of Experiment / Demonstration in Teaching Speaking

Abstract

Authentic assessment is very familiar in English language teaching, especially viewed from the 2-13 curriculum which recommends teachers to implement authentic assessment in classroom activities.  Authentic assessment is very familiar in English language teaching, especially viewed from the 2013 curriculum which recommends teachers to implement authentic assessment in classroom activities.  Instructional design has a very significant role in learning teaching process. In conducting classroom activities, the teacher has to prepare instructional design which reflects the activities of the classroom activities. There things which are related to each other, namely teaching, assessment, and test. The method used in this research is qualitative. Observation and interview were used to collect the data. The research results are there is improvement on students’ achievement, involvement, motivation, and psychological management. The situation of the classroom is also more interesting. Besides that, the students’ creativity is also better. In short the use of experiment / demonstration in teaching speaking is highly recommended.
